Two friends of mine recently graduated from law school and set out to start their own firm, specializing in intellectual property, Moraru & Nacht (M&N). Considering that intellectual property is something I create and deal with every day, I was more than eager to jump at the opportunity and start their brand off right.

I wanted to create a mark that felt strong and unequivocally law-inspired, yet approachable, trustworthy, and creative, given that they are legally backing people's fresh ideas and innovations. Ion Moraru and Jen Nacht happily obliged and let me go on my path. I opted for a simple, iconic approach in utilizing a column, a visual staple in legal matters [✔️] and a stable feature indicating strength [✔️]. Next, I took a slight gestalt approach by using the sum of Moraru & Nacht's initials to form the whole of the column as a slight nod toward innovation (creativity [✔️]). This became a simple form that can be applied to virtually anything, and stands perfectly alone, or with an accompanied wordmark. The use of gold foil as a textural element gave their brand a timeless quality, and the deep navy a sense of calm and assuredness in their business (approachability [✔️] and trust [✔️]). All together, this creates a brand that will give their clients a piece of mind that their ideas are safe and sound with M&N.
