The Island of Misfit Toys are a local indie band that have been progressively gaining notoriety in and around Chicago. For their first headlining tour they were toting a brand new album and asked me to create a T-shirt design to fit with it. To be a piece of the album, they suggested I use the lyrics of one of their songs as a source of inspiration. I took the latter half of the lyrics of their song “Scaffolding”, and line by line I interpreted the lyrics into a series of thumbnails. To create a visual story that follows the lyrics, I set up the illustrations in a grid and placed them in the order the lyrics were written.
