As part of our partnership with Barilla Pasta, SGK handled a large portion of their B to B portion of their operations. This included many sales kits for Barilla representatives to sample out to grocery trains and markets. When Barilla came to us with a new, higher-end line of authentic, Italian sauces, I jumped at the opportunity to elevate the experience.
Barilla made no compromises when it came to their new, Vero Gusto sauces, sourcing ingredients from all over Italy and crafting the sauces right in Parma. We wanted the unboxing experience to reflect this premium approach from the moment a Barilla rep sat down with prospective customers. We utilized smooth, soft-touch corrugate to give the entire box a matte texture – this the allowed us to play with additional print elements by employing spot glosses on the external logo and internal patterns. This tone-on-tone approach served as an added premium touch, giving the kit a heightened aesthetic. As a secondary element, a gold foil print was used on the "Made in Parma, Italy" statement, as well as a border around the internal doors to the product reveal. Along with the use of ingredient-inspired patterns on the inside flap, these subtle gold accents harkened back to the gold accents on the sauce packaging themselves. For presentation purposes and added functionality, we included a small drawer on the side of the sales kit to allow for a small sampling dish and spoons for Barilla reps to sample to their prospective buyers. The internal messaging extended a warm welcome about the new line, and served as an excellent, first impression to prospective buyers covering the attention-to-detail, flavor-appeal, and premium nature of Vero Gusto sauces.
